About Georges Herbein

Georges Herbein, M.D. Ph.D. FRSM, is a professor of medical virology at University of Franche-Comté and Besançon University Hospital, France. He is the head of the EPILAB Virology laboratory. Areas of particular interest include the role of viruses such as HIV in apoptosis and human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) in oncogenesis. Recently, Herbein’s research group has reported a direct link between some clinical HCMV strains and breast cancer, especially of poor prognosis, glioblastoma and ovarian cancer. The role of oncoviruses and HCMV in the appearance of polyploid giant cancer cells (PGCCs) is also investigated.
